Youth violence is an overarching term that may include a variety of behaviors, ranging from homicide and physical fights to sexual assault and bullying. Youth violence is usually discussed in the context of its related risk factors of drug abuse, truancy, vandalism, and theft. In 2009, approximately 11% of Rhode Island high school students reported carrying a weapon to school in the past month. Approximately 25% of these students reported being in a physical fight in the past year, and 9% had ever been in a fight on school property.
