Women's Health, Office of

Mission

The Office of Women's Health (OWH) works to eliminate health status disparities for Rhode Island women. This is achieved by promoting a gender-informed, coordinated, comprehensive, prevention focused approach to women's health across the lifespan. The OWH helps to coordinate internal and external efforts to use policy change to improve the health of women, increase public awareness of issues impacting the health of women, and to promote healthy behaviors and environments in partnership with other programs and organizations.

2010 Accomplishments and Milestones

• Produced and distributed a resource guide to 1500 pregnant women and new mothers.
• Collaborated with the Women¿s Health Council of RI (WHC), Lifespan, and Women & Infants Hospital to present the WHC Inaugural Quality Conference, ¿Better Questions. Better Quality.¿ The conference provided the audience of 150+ health care providers, insurers, and service providers with insight into how post-partum care and screening for intimate partner violence serve as opportunities to improve quality, link obstetric and ongoing primary care, and reduce longitudinal health risks.

Programs Within

Teen Ambassador Projects

We sponsor three to five Rhode Island teenagers each year to pursue independent research projects related to women’s health, and to represent teenagers on the Women’s Health Advisory Committee.
