Shellfish Inspection Program
Mission
To protect the health of consumers by regulating the processing and distribution of molluscan shellfish.
What we do
The Office of Food Protection participates in the National Shellfish Sanitation Program.The main objective of this program is to promote and improve the sanitation of shellfish in interstate commerce through dealer certification. Partners within this program include the:
- Rhode Island shellfish industry
- Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Marine Fisheries Section
- Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, Office of Water Resources
- Rhode Island Environmental Police, Division of Law Enforcement
- Rhode Island Coastal Resources Management Council
- Interstate Shellfish Sanitation Conference
