Office of Drinking Water Quality

Mission

To prevent disease and to protect and promote the health and safety of the people of Rhode Island by ensuring the state's drinking water supply quality.

What We Do

We are responsible for maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to drinking water quality.  We administer and enforce a variety of water quality programs to:

• Monitor public drinking water quality;
• Enforce the Safe Drinking Water Act;
• Approve new public water sources and systems;
• Develop effective water system operations and management practices;
• Develop policies and systems to optimize water system sustainability;
• Create public awareness of and participation in support of safe drinking water.

Our common vision steers our individual accomplishments and we are confident that the decisions, strategies and initiatives we undertake will continue to ensure safe and healthy sources of drinking water in our state.

Public Drinking Water

We work to prevent disease and to protect and promote the health and safety of the people of Rhode Island by ensuring the state's public drinking water supply quality. (more)

Private Wells

We work with local communities to set and oversee private well testing. (more)

Bottled Water

Bottled water is a food product, regulated by the Food and Drug Administration.  Bottled water may come from a variety of sources. We monitor identification and quality standards and the manufacturing process.  (more)

Public Swimming Pools

To ensure that public swimming pools are constructed and operated in a safe and sanitary manner. This program is responsible for the inspection of the pools filtering systesm, water quality, and safety concerns.   (more)

Drinking Water State Revolving Loan Fund

To assist public water systems in ensuring safe drinking water by providing a financing mechanism for infrastructure projects. (more)
