How do I Avoid Tick Bites?
Here are a few things you can do to avoid tick bite:
- Don’t walk around in high grasses, woods, or piles of leaves. Ticks like to live there, but they stay away from dry, sunny places with short or no grass.
- If you are walking or hiking, stay on the trail, and don’t walk through any grasses or dead leaves.
- Wear long sleeves and pants outside, so ticks can't get on your skin.
- Tuck your pant legs into your socks so ticks can't crawl inside.
- Ask an adult to spray you with bug spray containing DEET (10% for kids) before you go outside.
- If you have any pets that go outside, you and your parents should check them for ticks when they come back in and remove them.
ALWAYS REMEMBER to check your body for ticks whenever you have been outside or played with an animal that has been outside. Remember, ticks are very small, so you may have to look carefully to find one on you.
