Cancer Control ProgramRhode Island Cancer RegistryThe Rhode Island Cancer Registry (RICR) is a population-based cancer registry established in 1985. It began collecting reports of newly diagnosed cancers on October 1, 1986. The Registry produces official cancer statistics for Rhode Island, including an annual report which is posted on this website, and also supplies cancer data to researchers. (Strict guidelines are used to protect patient confidentiality so that individuals cannot be identified). Registry staff provide support to hospital tumor registries and promote American College of Surgeons approved cancer programs in acute care hospitals throughout the State. The Registry is supported by the State and by the National Program of Cancer Registries of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC Cooperative Agreement Number U58/DP000830). It is run collaboratively by the Rhode Island Department of Health (HEALTH) and the Hospital Association of Rhode Island (HARI). The Rhode Island Cancer Registry is also member of North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
